Retail Thoughts: Evolution

Drop culture feels played out and gimmicky. Let’s ponder the states to follow;

FATIGUE

Trend cycles and drop culture are emotionally and financially unsustainable for audiences. High frequency and turnover leaves no space for surprise, suspense or anticipation.

‘Specialness’ around exclusive products is being diluted, reaction/feeling is being numbed and individuals are searching for something more fulfilling.

Consistency? Reliability?

STABILITY

Less newness. Consistency they can relate to and invest in. Ideas of sustainability are shifting from expectation solely around the manufacturing/sourcing of products to looking for longevity in multiple areas, including philosophical and social ideologies (e.g. emotional states, communities, ideas of value).

Lonely is naturally stable. Patient. Dedicated and digestible at a sane relatable pace…
